Astrid Cabral

Astrid Cabral Astrid Cabral Félix de Sousa (born 1936) is one of the most eminent contemporary poets in Brazil.During the 1950s she was a member of the innovative literary movement known as Clube da Madrugada. Author numerous books, she holds a degree in English from Institute Brazil-United States. In 1962 she joined the faculty of the University of Brasilia, but resigned for political reasons following the military coup of 1964.

Salgado Maranhão won Brazil’s highest poetry award in 2011 for The Color of the Word.  An earlier collection, Mural of Winds, won the prestigious Prêmio Jabuti in 1999. In addition to nine books of poetry, he has written song lyrics and made recordings with some of Brazil’s leading jazz and pop musicians.
